Different Task Bar Customizations In Windows 10

The taskbar in Windows 10 works quite similar to the previous Windows versions – there are buttons for all the applications that are currently being run and allows you to pin the icons to be used later. System tray is also there for icons. There are different customizations that can be done to the task bar of your Windows and some of them are discussed here.

First, you can hide the system icons present in system tray. These items include clock, network status, volume control, power options, location indicator, input indicator, etc. and are there to show the status information. However, if you’d like to show only the icons you want then you should open settings by pressing ‘Win + I’ and then go to ‘System>Notifications & Actions’. In right pane there is a link “Turn system icons on or off”. Just toggle those icons which you do not want to Off.

Another customization that you can do is to hide the application icons displaying in system tray. It is common to install desktop applications every now and then. This may place some unnecessary icons in system tray. It is, however, possible to hide as well as remove them from taskbar. For this you will have to open settings and go to the “System>Notifications & Actions” area. Now click on “Select which icons appear on the taskbar”. A window will now open up from where you can hide icons that you don’t want to appear in system tray.

Yet another handy Windows 10 customization is moving the taskbar to left or right of screen. Screen’s bottom edge is default location for task bar in the Windows 10. But if you’re using windows 10 on some small-screen gadget then you can move the bar to right or left and free up some vertical space. For this you will have to right-click the empty space on taskbar and then click on “Properties”. Now in “Taskbar” tab, select Right or Left and click “Apply”.
